The System
Traditional Wing Chun Kung Fu is a concept-based, Southern Chinese martial art system with roots dating back to the Qing Dynasty. Popularized by Great Grandmaster Yip Man and his students, Wing Chun is designed to develop efficient martial artists within five to seven years. While we follow a curriculum founded on the traditional structure shown below, we apply our martial art to defend against modern fighting methods.

Wing Chun develops efficient martial artists within five to seven years. Students learn practical self-defense from their first class and progressively advance.
Our lineage traces directly to Great Grandmaster Yip Man, through Grandmaster William Cheung, Master John Clayton, to Master Ismail Agcicek. Our instructors are certified 10th Generation practitioners.
Yes — Wing Chun is built specifically for the range where real fights actually happen: close quarters, inside arm's reach, often against a larger opponent. Rather than trading blows at distance, it trains structure, simultaneous defense and attack, and contact reflexes through chi sao (sticking hands) so you can react by feel when you cannot react by sight. At Wing Chun Kung Fu Close Range Combat in Abingdon, Maryland we train the traditional system and then pressure-test it against modern fighting methods, including a weekly combatives class.
Yes. Most of our students start with zero martial arts background. Wing Chun is concept-based rather than athleticism-based, so progress comes from understanding structure and repetition, not from being young, flexible or naturally athletic. New students learn practical technique in their first class, and our certified instructor staff tailors instruction to each person.
No. Wing Chun is one of the most realistic martial arts to begin as an adult because it relies on body structure, positioning and economy of motion rather than speed, high kicks or explosive power. We regularly train adults starting in their 30s, 40s and 50s. Our classes are for teens and adults only — there are no children's classes, so the training environment stays serious and adult-paced.
Each art owns a different range. Muay Thai works best at striking distance, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu on the ground, and Krav Maga teaches a broad, scenario-based mix. Wing Chun specializes in the standing close range — the moment the gap has already closed and someone is inside your arms. Its trademark is the trained contact reflex: reacting to pressure by feel, faster than you could react by sight. Our Thursday Hard Target Tactics class deliberately blends Wing Chun with boxing, silat and wrestling so students are not limited to one range.
Yes. Hard Target Tactics, instructed by Tim Lucabaugh on Thursday evenings, is Harford County's first martial arts class offering combat application with concealed carry firearms. It covers modern hand-to-hand combatives and safe weapon application at contact distance — the part of a violent encounter that happens before a firearm can be drawn cleanly. Concealed carry permit holders are highly encouraged to enroll.
Our school is at 2906 Emmorton Road, Abingdon, Maryland 21009, inside AAA U.S. Taekwondo College. We draw students from across Harford County — Abingdon, Bel Air, Edgewood, Aberdeen and Havre de Grace — with most under a 20 minute drive.
